From Fort Riley to Forever Homes: Meet Boyd Thomasson
Some people find their way into real estate through open houses and spreadsheets. Boyd Thomasson found his way here through twenty years of service, a dozen moves, and a deep, personal understanding of what it means to build a life around a place you can finally call home.
Boyd is a REALTOR® with The Alms Group, serving the Fort Riley and Central Kansas community, and if you've met him, you already know he brings more to the job than a lockbox code and a listing sheet.
A Soldier First
Boyd grew up in Indiana, and like a lot of people of his generation, September 11th changed the course of his life. At 22, he joined the Army. It was a decision that would carry him through 20 years of service, multiple duty stations, and, eventually, five years stationed right here at Fort Riley.
Along the way, Boyd did what every military family does: he packed up, said goodbye to one community, and started over in the next one. Again and again. If you've been through a PCS move, you know it's not just boxes and moving trucks. It's finding a pediatrician, figuring out school zones, and trying to feel settled in a house you picked out from three states away. Boyd has lived that reality more times than most people can count, and it shows in how he works with clients today.
Now retired from the Army, Boyd has put down roots at Fort Riley with his wife, Sommer. It's the place he chose to stay, and now it's the place he helps other families choose, too.
A REALTOR® Who Gets It
Boyd started his real estate career in Virginia in 2024, and quickly brought that same sense of mission to the business. Today, working with The Alms Group, he focuses on the people who remind him most of himself and the community he served alongside for two decades:
Veterans and law enforcement officers looking for a place to call their own. Military families navigating the whirlwind of a PCS move, often on a tight timeline and from a distance. First-time home buyers who need someone to walk them through the process without the jargon. And anyone in Fort Riley or Central Kansas who wants an agent who actually understands what it's like to build a life around a duty station.
That background isn't a talking point for Boyd. It's the whole reason he does this work. He knows what it feels like to sign a lease sight unseen, to worry about deployment timelines around a closing date, and to want, more than anything, for the next house to actually feel like home. Clients describe him as bold, compassionate, and honest: the kind of agent who tells you the truth even when it's not what you want to hear, because he'd rather earn your trust than make a quick sale.
Life Beyond the Job
Away from real estate, Boyd is a homeowner, a husband, and a father, with his sights set on something a little more ambitious down the road: he's working toward becoming a homesteader. It fits: Boyd has spent two decades moving from place to place, and now he's putting real energy into staying put, growing something, and building the kind of life that lasts.
Friends and clients alike will tell you Boyd brings a friendly demeanor and plenty of laughs to everything he does, alongside a heart for service that never really clocked out when he left the Army. It's just found a new uniform.
